Welcome to A-Level Computer Science! Be ready because this year will be a big one for you and you will need to be prepared for a bumpy ride BUT you WILL get through it! We use the OCR exam board so the rest of this page will go through what OCR expects of us and what assessment you will have to do over the course.
The Computer Science material is broken into three parts:
The computer systems component (01) makes up the majority of the specification's material and is assessed through a written paper that tests knowledge and understanding.
The Algorithms and Programming component (02) is mainly concerned with problem-solving abilities that you as students will require in order to use the information and understanding gained in Component 01.
Programming project component (03 or 04) is a portfolio-based assessment with a task specified by the teacher or student and created in the student's or teacher's preferred programming language. If you want more information on this, come and find me in my office.
The aims of the qualification are to enable you to:
Understanding and use of computer science core ideas and concepts, such as abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms, and data representation
The capacity to solve issues in computational terms via practical experience, which includes writing programs to do so.
The ability to think in a creative, innovative, analytical, logical, and critical manner.
The ability to find connections between various areas of computer science.
Mathematical abilities
This shows the outline of what exams you will have to do and how much weighting they have in the overall grade.
